The story so far

After 7 years in the copier industry, Rory Atkins set up Topaz in 1990 at a time when there was much justified criticism of the industry, due to sharp practice and tactics to dishonestly extract large profits from un-beknowing trusting customers via swindles such as copy plan contracts.

Rory considered these disgraceful tactics to be short term and realised there was a need for a new approach delivering honesty and integrity to customers with no association to the tactics of the past which he felt would (in the early 1990's) expose dishonest, exploitative contracts, creating a bad name for the industry. In the early days, Rory worked hard, supporting small and large organisations that had become embroiled in difficult, expensive and onerous contracts, made worse by failing and inadequate service back-up. These were difficult times for the industry and for Topaz, because anybody associated with copiers at that time was looked upon suspiciously, due to the number of distressed customers.  The early 1990s were also a time of wide-spread recession. Ultimately, Topaz prevailed because of its honest and fair approach, which sustained at a time when the bad organisations were regulated and controlled to curtail their tactics.

Today, Topaz is a respected, successful organisation which has evolved significantly from the days of the humble photocopier to an organisation which is heavily IT based. The modern copier/printer is the office central hub of information flow, not just copying and printing but scanning, archiving, emailing and faxing, all from one reliable combined device which can also print low cost, affordable colour.

Since the mid-1990's, Topaz has annually been receiving awards, accolades and recognition for its good work in terms of performance through sales, growth and customer satisfaction.
Topaz does this modestly and quietly and sometimes does not state its strengths and values enough. However, the fact that the company is busy and growing, is, in itself, recognition of that fact.

In 2008, Topaz have been awarded no less than 7 industry awards for everything from sales and production print products to customer services.

After the 2007 floods in Gloucester, Topaz moved to its new site which was required due to business growth and the high volume production print equipment which require more space.

Topaz is now working towards its third decade in business and constantly striving to adapt to the rapid and fast changes in our modern world, ensuring that it continues to provide value propositions to its customers with excellent support and relationships.
